The Seminar, also supported by the Ethekwini Municipality, looks at the question of intercultural and interdisciplinary performance in 2014: Is its pursuit in the world of the Performing Arts still a worthwhile or duplicitous exercise? Can it contribute to the principle of “social cohesion”  and as a way to reinforce intercultural dialogue between people and countries/civilizations? Presentations and papers will be presented by Leslie Dikeni (Sociologist and Researcher with MISTRA), Lliane Loots (Senior Dance Lecturer at UKZN and Artistic Director of the Flatfoot Dance Company), Sazi Dlamini (Musicologist and Lecturer at UKZN), Prof Debbie Lütge (Head of Dept of Drama Studies DUT), Dr Pamela Tancsik (Theatre in Education Lecturer DUT) Tomáš Žižka (Artistic Director and Scenic Designer, mamapapa, Czech Republic) and Raphael Imbert (Jazz Saxophonist and theorist, France). At the end of the day there will be a panel discussion made up of panelists and stakeholders from the KZN region and members of the HOPES & MEMORIES project team.

The intercultural and interdisciplinary discourse contributes to the development of the performance project which is set to emerge in Sept/Oct of 2014 and which will tour to France, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and South Africa. In South Africa it is set to perform in Johannesburg and Durban.
